WOD Doc: Shoulder Stability: Serratus Anterior
Episode 33: previously, we covered how having active lats assists with mobility and shoulder stability. We also covered the posterior rotator cuff. Now, we continue forward with Serratus Anterior – a vital muscle, especially for the Bench Press and Push Ups. For overhead work, pull-ups, etc., this muscle needs to be activated and lengthened to give the shoulder (scapulae) clearance.
Recall, to activate the lat with the foam roller, you need to externally rotate the shoulder. For the Serratus Anterior, you need to internally rotate the shoulder to allow flaccidity into the muscles, else they will guard.
